Oil Recovery Tests for the Cutting Tools Industry: A Coopermatics ORP Case Study

We recently tested out our Oil Recovery Press (ORP) with sample sludge we received from one of our customers from the cutting tools industry in Brazil.

Their shop floor had multiple filters producing large quantities of sludge every day. As observed, the swarf contained a sufficient amount of oil content that could be extracted. The customer reached out to us to test our oil recovery press via sample testing. They sent us their sludge samples to our facility where we conducted the tests.

The sludge sample from the filter pot and the sludge pressed by our ORP were tested separately using the Soxhlet method. We were able to determine the rate of oil recovered, costs saved and the estimated payback period from utilizing SE Coopermatics Oil Recovery Press (ORP).

The following table represents the accumulated results after 3 weeks of testing.

The Soxhlet test on the sample resulted in a significant reduction of oil content in the sludge from 28% to 10.46% in weight. From the gathered data, our ORP was able to recover 546.86 Kg of oil per day and save USD$ 3,510.84 per week.

In conclusion, with an SE Coopermatics Oil Recovery Press, the customer can recover approximately 41,616 Kg of oil per year and save USD 168,528 14,044 annually on oil costs alone.

With the help of our Oil Recovery Press, the client is able to:

–      Efficiently recover more oil

–      Save significantly on oil costs

–      Reduce oil content in disposed sludge

–      Reduce environmental impact

Oil recovery is usually overlooked as secondary to filtration. Filtration systems do filter out most of the oil, but as observed above, oil recovery systems can be beneficial for customers in the long run. Our team at SE Coopermatics can provide the best systems and solutions for recovering maximum oil from swarf.

Our oil recovery press is available under the following services:

–      Free trial

–      Leasing

–      Oil recovery service
